Reading Session: Lamborghini’s Tadeys, Vieira’s “Sermão de Santo António aos Peixes,” and Eagleton’s Materialism.

October 2, 2017 (All day)
PIGOTT HALL (BLDG. 260), RM. 216

Free and open to public

Welcome back to materia! As a kick-starter for this academic year, we will read in translation literary texts originally written in Portuguese and Spanish accompanied by Terry Eagleton's new book, Materialism. For this session, we will discuss a 17th-century Luso-Brazilian sermon, Antonio Vieira's "Sermão de Santo António aos Peixes", and a fragment of Argentinean Oswaldo Lamborghini's 20th-century experimental novel, Tadeys. In materia's fashion, we hope that in the merge of such a diverse group of text a fruitful discussion around living and non-living matters will take place.
